The 11th Oxfam TowerRun Concluded with Over 400 Participants and Volunteers Local Trail Runner Vivi Cheung and International Runners Conquered the 61 Floors of Macau Tower to Raise Funds for China's Left-Behind Children

The 11th Oxfam TowerRun fundraising sports event took place today at Macau Tower. Over 300 participants registered for three categories, including the Half Tower 31 floors, Full-Tower 61 floors, and the ‘Relay Team Challenge’. A total of MOP4.7 million was raised in the last 11th editions of the event. This year, the funds raised from the Oxfam TowerRun will be used to support Oxfam’s children's development programmes in Guizhou, Gansu and Shaanxi, helping left-behind children to improve their life skills and enabling them to grow and develop in a holistic manner through support and companionship.

 

The champions of the ‘Relay Team Challenge’, PUMA, completed the race in (6 minutes 42 seconds). In the ‘Individual Run’ men’s race, the champions for the full tower and half tower were Vong Kuok Wa (8 minutes and 54 seconds) and Ho Chun Ting Timothy (4 minutes), respectively. In the women’s race, the champions for the full tower and half tower were Cindy Reid (10 minutes and 54 seconds) and Tan Michele Bee Kiang (5 minutes and 8 seconds which broke record), respectively. This year's new Elite category is very competitive. The champions of the men's and women's Elite Race – Full Tower were Wai Ching Soh (6 minutes and 33 seconds) and Qinghua Le (9 minutes and 1 seconds, which broke record), respectively and both of them broke the record.

 

The award ceremony was honored by the presence of distinguished guests, including Mr. David Lo, representative of AIA International Limited Macau Branch, the event’s Principal Sponsor, and representatives from the official sponsor, Occasions Public Relations Macau Limited. Other sponsors, including Banco Comercial de Macau, Hao Qing Sport Development Co. Ltd., iSport, Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre, along with other supporting organisations, were also in attendance. Oxfam TowerRun Event Ambassador, Macau Trail Runner Ms. Vivi Cheung also made a special appearance to cheer on the participants.

 

Mr. Michael Wong, Director of Fundraising and Communications at Oxfam Hong Kong, expressed gratitude for the widespread support that made the event a success, with special thanks extended to the runners. Every step they took contributes to Oxfam’s poverty alleviation project and policy advocacy, making a meaningful impact on the lives of the less fortunate. Oxfam also extended heartfelt appreciation to the event’s Principal Sponsor, AIA International Limited Macau Branch, for their generous initiative to donate an additional HK$100 to Oxfam for each participant who completed the Full Tower Race, further supporting Oxfam’s poverty alleviation efforts. In addition, AIA is sponsoring a total of €1,200 in cash prizes for the top three winners of the newly introduced Elite Category, aiming to attract more world-class runners to Macau.

 

For the second year, Oxfam TowerRun has successfully obtained international recognition as a qualified tower running competition, accredited by the Towerrunning World Association (TWA) and the Asia-Pacific Vertical Marathon Association (AVA) with 120 points, Oxfam is dedicated to creating the Oxfam TowerRun as a major sports tourism event in Macau.

 

This year, wooden medals were introduced for the first time, making the awards more meaningful. The back of each medal featured a drawing created by the left-behind children, adding a special personal touch. On the event day, various activities were offered, including booth games, vegetarian food charity sales, and workshops, all of which were open to the public free of charge.
