While we are celebrating the festive Lunar New Year, there are many children in Hong Kong and other places are facing hunger and losing their opportunities for education and a better future due to poverty, natural disasters, and war.

 Activity Details

Enrollment period18 Nov 2024 - 24 Jan 2025 (Due to the overwhelming response, the enrollment deadline will be extended to 24 Jan 2025)
Donation collection period3 Feb – 7 Mar 2025
TargetKindergarten, primary school, and secondary school students, teachers, and parents. [Corporate are also welcome to join.]
Enrollment methodEnrollment can be submitted via online form or email by 17 Jan 2025.
The registered schools will receive Oxfam Lai See envelopes, posters and donation box in early January. The school notice template can be downloaded from the website.

   

 Donation Method

Physical DonationSchools can distribute the Oxfam Lai See envelopes to participants and collect their donations. Schools can donate the collected donations through the following methods:
Count the donations and deposit the donation in Oxfam’s bank account (Hang Seng Bank A/C No.: 284-401080-002). Please send the bank-in slip together with completed donation form by email. 
 Count the donations and send a crossed cheque (payable to “Oxfam Hong Kong”) together with completed donation form to Oxfam.
 Coordinate with Oxfam staff to collect donations from your school. The collection period is 3 Feb to 7 Mar 2025 (except Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holiday).
Online donationSchools can choose to set up a school fundraising page on our crowdfunding platform to collect donations. Schools are required to provide the name of school, a copy of the text displayed on the crowdfunding platform and a photo for the creation of a dedicated fundraising page.

   

 Prizes

 Participating schools will be awarded commendation certificates.
 Schools that raise more than $10,000 will be awarded a free Hunger Banquet (for approximately 120 students).
 The School Fundraising Prize (Champion, 1st and 2nd runner up) in each group will be awarded a trophy.
 The school with the highest number of participants will be awarded “The Most Active Participation School” award. A trophy and a board game will be awarded.

 Your Lai See donation can help underprivileged children to improve their living condition and create a better future.

Helping autistic children to communicate with others

Oxfam and partner combined RABI (Robot for Autism Behavioural Intervention) and traditional Chinese treatments to improve the social skills of the underprivileged autistic children.

Ah Yue is an autistic child. After treatment, his verbal communication, cognitive and social skills have improved significantly, which is a good start for him to communicate with others.

Improving the eating habit and nutritional needs of underprivileged children

Oxfam has been working with the People Service Centre and the Hong Kong Community Dietitian Association to implement the “Mobile Nutrition Clinic” project.  Through the project, underprivileged families are provided with nutrition knowledge, dietitian consultation and personalised nutrition improvement strategies.

Among participants, over 70% of the children showed significant improvement in their nutritional intake, and more than half of the children showed improvement in their digestive health and picky eating habits.

Improving the situation of school dropouts for underprivileged girls in Malawi

Oxfam and partners provide assistance to projects in the local community. For example, providing sewing machines and new fabrics to make clean cloth sanitary towels for girls, reducing the number of girls who miss school due to menstruation. Oxfam also work with social workers to make home visits to students who are often absent from school to help resolve family difficulties.

In the past two years, the project has prevented at least 80 child marriages, returned more than 40 child labourer, and enabled more than 600 students to return to school.

Boosting the confidence of northern India girls with sport

Oxfam and partner introduced sports in schools to encourage children to go to school.

Komal’s sprots performance is recognised by society and her family. Girls are more confident in themselves and more passionate about school.
