Henry Tang

For over a decade, Oxfam has been a significant part in my life. Between 2013 and 2016, I had the honour of participating in the 100km Oxfam Trailwalker. Those journeys embodied the essence of “Every Step Transforms Lives.” When our team received the “Outstanding Fundraiser Award” for four consecutive years, we turned the support of our loved ones into tangible change for communities in need. I came to understand that the Oxfam Trailwalker is not only a challenge, it is a heartfelt commitment.

Over the years, my role has evolved from participant to organiser. What began as a personal quest has transformed into the privilege and responsibility of planning Hong Kong’s largest hiking fundraising event, the Oxfam Trailwalker. This transition is not only an honour but also a significant responsibility that has deepened my connection to Oxfam and strengthened my dedication to our core mission: Creating a World Without Poverty.

Oxfam’s work in poverty alleviation relies heavily on the generosity of public donations. Each contribution acts as a catalyst for change, empowering us to make meaningful strides forward. This strong local support allows us to extend our impact from Hong Kong, Macau, and Mainland China to communities around the globe. Every dollar raised enables Oxfam to respond to emergencies, support long-term development, and advocate for a more equitable world—whether it's providing clean water in disaster-stricken areas or empowering women and youth in vulnerable communities. Every step we take truly transforms lives.

Throughout my time with Oxfam, we have faced many challenges. These experiences have clarified my vision for the agency’s future and deepened my commitment to living out its mission with passion. This past year has been particularly transformative, as communities worldwide have faced escalating conflicts, climate-related disasters, and widening inequality. Yet, in the face of these adversities, we have also witnessed extraordinary acts of resilience, courage, and solidarity. These moments have touched me deeply and reinforced my determination to move forward alongside my team.

The Oxfam Trailwalker always falls near my birthday, making it a special time for me. Each year, as we crossed the finish line, my family and friends would surprise me with a birthday cake, their love wrapping around me like a warm hug. Those moments are some of my happiest memories, showing me the power of coming together.  Looking ahead, I hope to bring this spirit of togetherness into Oxfam’s work—joining hands with our dedicated staff, council, committees, donors, and the communities we serve. Together, we can strengthen Oxfam’s impact and create a more inclusive and equitable future for everyone.
