Oxfam Musical Marathon is Oxfam Hong Kong (OHK) ’s annual music fundraising event. This year holds special significance as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of OHK. Through the power of music, we aim to connect the past, present, and future, and continue working together towards a world without poverty.
Under the theme "Music for Change: Creating a World Without Poverty", we invite schools, organisations, and individuals to join us on 21 and 22 March. Participants will showcase their musical talents by performing Chinese and Western musical instruments or singing in a relay format, while raising funds to support Oxfam’s poverty alleviation programmes in Hong Kong and around the world.
In addition to the popular performance session, this year's event will also feature a special competition session. Participants are encouraged to take part as soloists, ensembles, or solo vocalists, showcasing their musical skills and creativity. Contestants will compete for multiple awards, with winners chosen by a panel of professional judges.
We believe music can spark powerful change. At this milestone moment of OHK’s 50th anniversary, every note you play helps carry that change forward—transforming music into tangible support for people living in poverty, and empowering them to improve their lives and lift themselves out of poverty. “We are not only managing our households—we are also driving the development of our communities!” — Women from Meide Village
Your participation can become a force that supports rural women, letting their voices be heard by the world.
In the Dong village of Congjiang County, Guizhou, women in Meide Village have long been confined by traditional norms, with public decision-making dominated by men, leaving their talents and voices rarely heard.
In collaboration with local partners, Oxfam has provided skills training for women, supporting them in learning homestay management, innovative handicraft design, livestreaming, climate-resilient agriculture, and project management. Oxfam has also supported the cultivation of women’s peer groups and nurtured community leaders, which has enhanced their confidence and community status. The women courageously faced internal doubts and external scepticism. From forming a singing group to coordinating village affairs, they proved their capabilities step by step through action. They not only successfully organised a rural music festival for thousands, but integrated the confidence and leadership skills developed during the process into their daily lives, helping drive a shift in perspective throughout the entire village.
Let us support more rural women in taking part in community development—composing chapters of their future.

“Through unity, we turned dry soil into hope. Today, we are not just surviving climate change—we are growing beyond it, together.” — Halima Abdo, member of the Manyata Konso Women Group
Your participation can be transformed into a force that empowers rural women, bringing economic autonomy and climate resilience to communities.
In Marsabit County, Kenya, many families have long endured the hardships of recurrent droughts, barren lands, and precarious livelihoods.
In collaboration with our local partner, Oxfam has introduced water facilities and seeds for nutritious crops to women’s groups. United in solidarity, the women have established rotating savings schemes and acquired financial management skills, breaking through environmental limitations to successfully enhance food security and increase household income, while also extending their experience to neighbouring communities.
Let us join hands on this journey together—supporting more rural women in forging sustainable livelihoods, accessing resources, and sowing the seeds of a lasting future in the face of climate challenges.
