Oxfam Trailwalker 2020 (Jan 2021) cancelled
With the continued spread of COVID-19, we at Oxfam Hong Kong (OHK) have been working tirelessly over the past few months to make sure the Oxfam Trailwalker (OTW) could continue as planned. We have come up with arrangements for a range of scenarios and proposed details of the adjustments to various government departments.
However, given the fourth wave of the pandemic, safety of all participants, support teams and volunteers, uncertainties COVID-19 has brought about, and the restrictions on gatherings, we have had to make the difficult decision of cancelling the OTW, which was scheduled for 29 to 31 January next year.
In the ‘Oxfam Trailwalker 2020 (29 - 31 January 2021) - Reserving Team Slot or Refund Arrangements’ email that we sent participants earlier, it was confirmed that if the event in January was cancelled, participants could choose to have their registration fee refunded. We will send an email to participants later with more details about this.
Despite these challenges, we firmly believe that there’s always a way out.
Given the new normal, we will launch a new iteration of the OTW in February next year. Participants who confirmed that they would join the event in January will be given registration priority. The event will be free, and participants will not need to meet a fundraising minimum. Participants will also have more flexibility in terms of which section(s) of the trail (which runs between Pak Tam Chung, Sai Kung, and Tai Tong, Yuen Long) they would like to tackle. We are currently working with various parties on this and will announce the details later.
As for OTW 2021, it has been tentatively scheduled for 19 to 21 November. Keep an eye out for updates in our emails, on our OTW website and Facebook page.
The OTW is much like life, and even the road to end poverty – there will always be ups and downs. But with the Trailwalking Spirit of perseverance and teamwork, we truly believe we will be able to overcome the hurdles we are facing.
