The 9th Macau Oxfam TowerRun To Experience the Impact of Climate Change on the Most Vulnerable

Registration Deadline: 9 September 2022

Oxfam TowerRun 2022 Opening

(From Left to Right) Representatives from the General Association of Athletics of Macau, Banco Comercial de Macau, Oxfam in Macau, AIA International Limited Macau Branch, Occasions Public Relations Macau Limited and Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre.

The Oxfam TowerRun fundraising event will be held at the Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre on 16 October 2022, which is one day before the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. Participants are cordially invited by Mr. Louie Ho, Chief Executive Officer of AIA International Limited Macau, together with representatives of Occasions Public Relations Macau Limited, Banco Comercial de Macau, Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre, General Association of Athletics of Macau and other sponsors,  to experience the impact of climate change on the most vulnerable group.

Climbing up a total of 1,298 stairs at Macau Tower, which will approximately last around 20 minutes* for most participants, is equivalent to the time and energy consumed for the herders in Qinghai to walk and search for limited safe water access under climate change. Furthermore, the time consumed for the victims of the drought in East Africa takes to fetch safe drinking water to survive is even four times longer. Therefore, the Oxfam TowerRun event invites and welcomes participants to help the most vulnerable group to fight climate change by fund raising, while challenging themselves to win exquisite gifts including sports club memberships and SEIKO watches.

*Estimated based on the average amount of time needed in past. For reference only.

Poorest in urgently need of assistance because of climate change
Climate change has brought extreme weather to all parts of the world and the most vulnerable group are always the first to suffer. The drought in East Africa has already lasted for two years with 28 million people suffering from a hunger crisis. At the same time, water sources in Qinghai are gradually decreasing which affect herder’s income severely. Oxfam is committed to supporting victims of climate change and utilising donations to meet their urgent needs as well as advocating for climate action. The upcoming Oxfam TowerRun event aims to raise funds for poverty alleviation, disaster relief and policy advocacy in Macau and all around the world.
