Oxfam Trailwalker 2014 finishes with
4,404 people completing the 100 km Trail

Oxfam Trailwalker, Hong Kong’s most popular hiking fundraising event organized by Oxfam Hong Kong, ended successfully this afternoon when the last team crossed the finish line in Yuen Long at 1:58pm today, completing the 100 km trail in 47 hours 58 minutes.

Stephen Fisher, Director General of Oxfam Hong Kong, presented certificates to the team and other supporting organisations at the Closing Ceremony. This year, 4,404 participants completed the 100km trail within the required 48 hours, i.e. 88% of all walkers.

Stephen Fisher said, “I am happy to welcome all of you who have come all the way from Sai Kung. It does not matter who reached the finish line first or last. Each team made it this far and has shown great determination and commitment in overcoming all the obstacles and difficulties along the trail. The same applies to our work against poverty. Eliminating poverty is a long and arduous journey. It requires the same Trailwalking spirit, endurance, determination and perseverance you all demonstrated. With your support, we will be able to help more people escape the reality of not having enough and injustice, and ultimately, create a world without poverty.”

Oxfam Trailwalker has been held since 1981, and has become Oxfam Hong Kong's flagship fundraiser and one of the largest fundraising hiking events in Hong Kong, with the support of State Street, which has been the principal sponsor for 16 years. Since 1986, more than 81,000 trailwalkers have participated and raised over HK$422 million to support Oxfam’s poverty alleviation work all over the world.

The event has successfully developed into an international top-notch fundraiser, challenging walkers in 16 cities in 10 countries including Australia (Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney), Belgium, England (South Downs, Yorkshire Dales), France, India (Bangalore, Mumbai), Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Spain (Girona, Madrid) and Hong Kong.
