Oxfam Trailwalker 2018 ended with 4,228 people completing the 100 km trail

The Oxfam Trailwalker (OTW), Hong Kong’s most popular fundraising hiking event organised by Oxfam Hong Kong (OHK), ended successfully this afternoon when the last team (team number 0906) crossed the finish line together in Yuen Long at 1:51 pm today, completing the 100 km trail in 47 hours 51 minutes.

Stephen Fisher, Acting Director General of Oxfam Hong Kong, presented certificates to the teams and other supporting organisations at the closing ceremony. This year, 4,228 participants completed the 100 km trail within the required 48 hours, i.e. 86.9% of all walkers.

Stephen Fisher said, ‘We are very happy to see that you have made it all the way from Sai Kung and have overcome the gruelling 100 km trail through endurance, perseverance and teamwork. This was no easy feat, to say the least! Much like our theme this year, Oxfam Trailwalker: Transforming Lives, I’ve seen how the OTW has transformed countless walkers’ lives and witnessed how they accomplished things they never thought they could do through perseverance and teamwork. Know that this amazing achievement is also transforming lives in poor communities all around the world!’

The OTW has become OHK's flagship fundraiser and one of the largest fundraising hiking events in Hong Kong. OHK aims to raise HK$34 million to support its work in poverty alleviation, disaster relief and policy advocacy in Hong Kong and around the world. Since 1986, more than 100,000 walkers have participated in the event and raised over HK$572million. The event has successfully developed into an international top-notch fundraiser, challenging walkers in 16 cities in 9 countries including Australia, Belgium, England, France, India, New Zealand, Spain, Hong Kong and South Korea.
