Oxfam Trailwalker 2025 Prize Presentation cum Tai Po Fire “Solidarity Support Programme” Appreciation Ceremony Concludes Successfully
Oxfam Hong Kong Thanks Trailwalkers and Donors for Standing with Affected Families and Announces Dates for Oxfam Trailwalker 2026
This year’s Oxfam Trailwalker 2025 Prize Presentation cum Tai Po Fire “Solidarity Support Programme” Appreciation Ceremony was successfully held on 24 March at the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups Building, bringing together more than 100 guests. Last November, on the eve of the event, a serious fire broke out at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, affecting over a thousand households. To enable the Government and emergency services to focus fully on the incident, Oxfam Hong Kong (OHK) made the difficult decision to cancel the event. All public donations raised for Oxfam Trailwalker 2025 were allocated in full to Oxfam’s Tai Po Fire “Solidarity Support Programme”, providing both emergency and longer term support to affected families.
The ceremony aimed to express OHK’s gratitude to the trailwalkers, sponsors, supporting organisations, volunteers and donors who continued to stand with us during a challenging time. Although participants were unable to take on the MacLehose Trail as planned, the Trailwalker spirit endured — extending the power of solidarity from the mountains into the community. With the support of the public, the funds raised were quickly channelled into meaningful assistance for affected families.
Bernard Chan, Oxfam Trailwalker Steering Group Convenor, said, “Tonight, we gather to honour everyone who has walked in solidarity with Oxfam. Your actions show that the Trailwalker spirit is not only about completing a 100‑kilometre challenge, but also about stepping forward when the community is in need. With your support, Oxfam has begun distributing HK$5,000 in emergency assistance to each affected household, and more than 1,700 households have registered to date. We will continue to provide medium‑ to long‑term, holistic support to affected families—including emotional and psychological counselling, and assistance needed after relocation to temporary housing — to help residents rebuild their lives.”
Since 2024, Futu Securities has served as the Principal Sponsor of Oxfam Trailwalker for six consecutive years, supporting Oxfam’s poverty alleviation work in Hong Kong and around the world. Lo Wai Kit, Marketing Director of Futu Securities, said, "We extend our deepest concern to the residents affected by last year’s devastating fire and have been working closely with OHK to ensure that donations and relief supplies are prioritised for disaster recovery efforts. At the same time, we have launched HK$10 million to promote community emergency donation efforts. We firmly believe that as a company rooted in the community, we have a responsibility to give back. Through our actions, we hope to spread warmth and inspire strength and hope in the face of challenges. Moving forward, Futu will continue to work hand in hand with Oxfam and partners from all sectors to unite compassion in Hong Kong.”
Bernard Chan then presented souvenirs to Futu Securities, the Principal Sponsor of Oxfam Trailwalker 2025, Logistics Partners, Leaders’ Walk participants and Supporting Organisations, in gratitude for their staunch support of the event. He also presented the Major Fundraising Awards and Category Fundraising Awards to the teams or organisations that raised the highest amounts of sponsorship in each category, with a minimum requirement of over HK$200,000.
Hugh Kam, Council Vice Chairperson of Oxfam Hong Kong, presented souvenirs to Official Sponsors, Other Sponsors of Oxfam Trailwalker 2025, and the Supporting Organisations of the “Oxfam Trailwalker 2025 - Youth Edition”, thanking them for their contribution to passing on the Trailwalker spirit to the next generation. He also presented the Outstanding Fundraiser Awards to the teams that have achieved a fundraising total of HK$100,000 or above.
In the latter part of the ceremony, Henry Tang, Director General of Oxfam Hong Kong, presented the newly introduced Group Outstanding Fundraising Awards to organisations that raised HK$100,000 or above, as well as the Running Club Application Excellence Award, which recognises the running club with the highest number of open team applications.
Towards the end of the ceremony, on behalf of Oxfam, Henry Tang presented souvenirs to organisations and donors who had generously contributed to the Oxfam’s Tai Po Fire “Solidarity Support Programme”, expressing heartfelt appreciation for their support at a critical moment for the affected families.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Oxfam’s establishment in Hong Kong. Oxfam Trailwalker 2026 is scheduled to take place from 20 to 22 November, with application opening on 6 May. For details, please stay tuned to official announcements from Oxfam Trailwalker.

About Oxfam Trailwalker
Oxfam Trailwalker (previously called “Trailwalker”) began in Hong Kong in 1981 as a military training exercise for the elite Queen’s Gurkha Signals Regiment. In 1986, Oxfam Hong Kong was invited to co-organise the event and in the same year the event was open to the public. Along with the retreat of the Gurkhas in 1997, Oxfam Hong Kong took over the event, which has since become Hong Kong's largest fundraising hiking event.
Oxfam Trailwalker 2024 starts in Pak Tam Chung in Sai Kung, and finishes at Harrow International School Hong Kong in Tuen Mun. Teams of four must complete the 100km MacLehose Trail and other connecting sections within 48 hours. This year also features a shorter, special 40th-anniversary route. The event is generously supported by over 3,000 volunteers and 20 sponsors.
