The 12th Oxfam TowerRun Successfully Held with Over 400 Participants and Volunteers. James Ng Makes Debut, Running to Support Left-Behind Children in Mainland China
The 12th "Oxfam TowerRun" fundraising event, organised by Oxfam, was successfully held on 19 October 2025 at the iconic Macau Tower. This year, over 400 athletes and volunteers participate in the event, with the Full Race (61 floors), Half Race (31 floors), and the Team Relay Challenge categories. The Full Race attracted more than 40 international athletes, including the world’s top-ranked male and female towerrunners. Having been held for over a decade, the event has raised nearly MOP 5.2 million to date.
During the Opening Ceremony, Henry Tang, Director General of Oxfam Hong Kong, expressed gratitude to the runners, sponsors, and volunteers. “This year's theme, ‘Every Mind Counts, Every Step Transforms Lives’, underscores the significance of the funds raised, which will support Oxfam's poverty alleviation projects, particularly focusing on the education and development of left-behind children in Mainland China,” he emphasised. Each step taken by participants not only tests their physical limits but also contributes to life-changing efforts alongside Oxfam, he then added.
The Official Sponsor, Occasions Public Relations Macau Limited, has consistently supported the "Oxfam Tower Run" fundraising event. Anna Tai, Project Director of Occasions Public Relations Macau Limited, stated, "This year marks our fourth consecutive year as the Official Sponsor for 'Oxfam TowerRun'. We firmly believe that through sustained commitment, we can enact far-reaching impacts to our communities. I would like to take this opportunity to express gratitude to Oxfam for their relentless efforts in poverty alleviation over the years, and for giving Occasions Macau this opportunity to do our part in corporate social responsibility.”
This year's witnessed intense competition. The Men's and Women's champions of the Elite Individual Full Race category were Ryoji Watanabe (6 minutes 46 seconds) and Yuko Tateishi (9 minutes 04 seconds) respectively. The Team Relay Challenge champion was PUMA (6 minutes 14 seconds). In the "Open Individual Race" category, the Men's Full Race and Half Race champion was Ho Chun Ting (8 minutes 13 seconds and 3 minutes 56 seconds), while the Women's Full Race and Half Race titles were claimed by Cindy Reid (11 minutes 05 seconds) and Vivi Cheung (5 minutes 41 seconds) respectively.
The two Oxfam Tower Run 2025 Ambassadors – Towerrunning world No.1 Soh Wai Ching and Macau trail runner Vivi Cheung – not only took on the Full Race, Half Race and Team Relay challenges respectively, but also took to the stage to cheer on participants, saying: "Wishing every runner success in finishing the races! May you all thoroughly enjoy this exceptionally meaningful journey as we join hands with Oxfam to raise funds for left-behind children in Mainland China and collectively drive change!" Additionally, Celebrity Runner James Ng made his towerrunning debut in the Full Race. He encouraged fellow participants from the stage and called on all sectors to donate, not only to support the runners, but also to bring hope to left-behind children in Mainland China.
Special thanks go to our Major Sponsor Koi Kei Bakery, Official Sponsor Occasions Public Relations Macau Limited, Sponsor Hou Chon Sports Club, and Venue Sponsor Macau Tower for their steadfast support. Throughout the event, representatives from supporting and sponsoring organisations not only attended the opening ceremony, but some also took part in the Leaders’ Run, demonstrating their commitment to the spirit of charity towerrunning.
This year, Oxfam collaborated with local higher education institutions, including the University of Macau and Macau University of Science and Technology, to engage over 50 local students in the TowerRun challenge, highlighting the involvement of youth in community initiatives.
As the only internationally recognised tower running event in the city, the Oxfam TowerRun is an officially recognised 120-point event by both the Towerrunning World Association and the Asia-Pacific Vertical Marathon Association. Not only is it a major event in the local sports community, but it also serves as a highlight in promoting Macau's tourism image.
On the event day, food stalls and workshops were also set up and opened to the public. The atmosphere was vibrant, with many families and tourists gaining an understanding of Oxfam's poverty alleviation mission through the workshops. This successfully integrated a sporting event with community education, further advancing the spirit of "spreading love through sports".
