“Music for Change”: Oxfam Musical Marathon 2026 Kicks Off Renowned Musicians Joined Hands with Oxfam to Empower Women in the Fight Against Poverty

The Oxfam Musical Marathon 2026, an annual fundraising event organised by Oxfam Hong Kong (OHK), held its opening ceremony at the Laguna Plaza Atrium on 21 March 2026, marking the start of a vibrant two day music celebration. This year’s event carried special significance as OHK celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Under the theme “Music for Change: Creating a World Without Poverty”, the event brought together more than 500 performers, who showcased their musical talents through instrumental and vocal performances in a relay format across two venues— Laguna Plaza and TKO Plaza, while raising funds to support Oxfam’s poverty alleviation programmes in Hong Kong and worldwide.

At the opening ceremony, Henry Tang, Director General of OHK, said, “For 50 years, OHK has walked alongside vulnerable communities, working to address the challenges of poverty and inequality. Every performance and every act of support in the Event helps drive real change. Funds raised this year will support our global poverty alleviation projects, with a particular focus on enhancing women’s economic empowerment and strengthen climate resilience.”

He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to Tom Lee Music, the principal sponsor of the Oxfam Musical Marathon, for its generous support over the years. He further thanked the venue sponsors, all participants and their parents, volunteers and donors for their enthusiastic involvement, which made the event possible.

The opening ceremony was graced by several distinguished guest musicians who delivered outstanding performances. These included a collaborative vocal, piano and harmonica performance by Oxfam Music Ambassador and Distinguished Pianist Nancy Loo, World Champion Harmonicist Ramiel Leung and Renowned Soprano Yuki Ip; Renowned Saxophonist Timothy Sun, S’way Saxophone Ensemble and Little Pianist Alexander Han also delivered captivating performances. Their performances marked the official opening of the event and blessings to people living in poverty around the world.

This year marked the introduction of a competition session for the first time, encouraging participants to showcase their musical talents through solo or ensemble performances, or as solo vocalists. The finals took place at 2 pm the same day at Laguna Plaza Atrium, with Nancy Loo, Timothy Sun and Ramiel Leung serving as judges. Winners were selected on site, and several awards were presented to recognise and commend the participants’ efforts and achievements.

Originating from the “Oxfam Pianothon” in 1990, the Oxfam Musical Marathon has, for more than three decades, provided a platform for children and music enthusiasts to perform while advancing Oxfam’s mission. Looking ahead, OHK will continue to harness the power of music to support people living in poverty, empowering them to build more secure and dignified lives.
